Size guide

The wrong size is the number one mistake for anyone buying a picture online. Too small and it vanishes on the wall; too large and it swallows the room. This guide exists so you get it right the first time.

The sizes

Format Measurement Works well in
Small 30 × 40 cm Niches, corners, compositions, side table
Medium 50 × 70 cm Hallways, bedrooms, home office, bedside
Large 60 × 90 cm Living room, above the sofa, entrance hall
Extra large 90 × 120 cm High ceilings, a feature wall, large rooms

3 rules to get it right

Width: above the sofa or the headboard, the work (or the set) should fill 2/3 to 3/4 of the furniture's width. Less than that and it looks lost.

Height: the center of the work at eye level — roughly 145 cm from the floor. Art isn't a cornice; don't hang it too high.

Breathing room: leave 15 to 25 cm between the frame and the top of the furniture. The wall needs to breathe.

Sets

Two or three smaller pieces can be worth more than one large one — they create rhythm. Keep 5 to 8 cm between the pictures and align them by the center. When in doubt, start with one strong piece and grow from there.
